The Plastic-Body Inverter (CHIC)

Why it mattered: Metal inverters were heavy, corrosion-prone and a shock hazard. Su-Kam engineered India's first plastic-body inverter.

Impact: India Today named it the 'Innovation of the Decade.' It reset the entire industry's design language.

〰️

Sine-Wave Inverter Technology

Why it mattered: Indian homes ran sensitive electronics on crude square-wave power. Su-Kam brought MOSFET, microcontroller and DSP sine-wave technology into everyday inverters.

Impact: Cleaner, safer power for millions of homes — and a new technical standard the whole industry followed.

☀️

Hybrid Solar PCU

Why it mattered: Solar needed to work with the grid and batteries seamlessly, years before it was mainstream in India.

Impact: One of India's first hybrid solar Power Conditioning Units — bringing affordable solar into ordinary homes, not just demo projects.

🏠

Solar Home Lighting & 'Home UPS'

Why it mattered: Off-grid and power-cut-prone homes needed reliable, all-in-one backup.

Impact: Su-Kam's Solar Home Lighting System and the 'Home UPS' category were adopted across the industry within a year.

🔋

Energy Storage (today, at Su-Vastika)

Why it mattered: Diesel generators and ageing lead-acid batteries are noisy, polluting and short-lived.

Impact: Lithium Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and solar hybrids — the next chapter of the same mission.

🏆

India Today — "Innovation of the Decade"

Su-Kam's plastic-body inverter, the CHIC, was recognised by India Today as the Innovation of the Decade — a rare honour for an Indian-engineered consumer product.

The 77 patents filed at Su-Kam — and what became of them

Over 14 years, Su-Kam filed 77 patents across solar, UPS, and power electronics; most were still under examination when the company entered insolvency proceedings under the IBC. Kunwer Sachdev tells the full story of Su-Kam's rise and fall — and how the patents were lost — on his personal site. Read "The Rise and Fall of India's Inverter Man" →
