Recovered Su-Kam archive Guides & How-To 2016

About this page — a recovered blog post from the Su-Kam era, originally published on blog.su-kam.com during Kunwer Sachdev's tenure as Founder & MD. The original blog was lost after Su-Kam's insolvency; this page is reconstructed from the Internet Archive and preserved as a historical record.

4 Reasons Why an MPPT Solar Charge Controller is Better Than PWM

The charge controller sits between the solar panel and the battery, and the choice between MPPT and PWM makes a real difference to how much sun you actually use. Su-Kam laid out four reasons MPPT wins.

1. More energy harvested — MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) continuously finds the panel's optimal operating point, typically extracting 15–30% more energy than PWM, especially in cold or low-light conditions. 2. Panel flexibility — MPPT lets you run higher-voltage panel strings and step them down to battery voltage, so wiring is simpler and losses lower. 3. Better efficiency — less energy wasted as heat. 4. Future-proofing — MPPT scales better as you add panels.

Su-Kam built MPPT into its solar PCUs and charge controllers, and explained the trade-off plainly so customers could size systems correctly — the kind of technical honesty that built the brand.
