Chennai Home Wants to 'Sell' Solar Electricity

Chennai, Tamil Nadu

A Chennai homeowner with a sun-soaked roof wanted more than self-sufficiency — they wanted to run the house on solar and sell the surplus back to the grid.

That is the promise of grid-tie with net metering: generate more than you use during the day, export the excess, and earn credit — effectively turning a rooftop into a small power plant. Su-Kam's grid-tie systems made the prosumer model real for Indian homes.

It was an early sign of where residential solar was heading — from cutting bills to creating value — and Su-Kam was equipping customers for it years before it became common.
