People in the Village Went Solar. The Caption Asked: When Will You?

8 December 2017 — Bidar’s Bhalki. Five photos from a village album. One line that still works as a dare. That is how rural solar under my watch as CEO & MD showed up on Facebook.

By Kunwer Sachdev · CEO & Managing Director, Su-Kam (at the time) · Founder 1988–2018 · Published September 28, 2026 · Historical era: Facebook album 8 Dec 2017

The Album That Outperformed the Metros

Under my leadership as CEO & MD, Su-Kam’s Facebook was not only a brochure for campuses and factories. On 8 December 2017 the page dropped a village album from Kasartugaon Taluka, Bhalki, Bidar district, Karnataka.

Five photographs. One caption that refused to whisper: “People in village are also going solar, when will you!!” The archive still shows what the city posts often could not match — 139 likes, 41 comments, 12 shares — the highest rural engagement in the curated Facebook record on this site.

That is not vanity metrics. That is evidence that the network I built — dealers, solar awareness teams, products that could live on a village roof — had reached one of India’s harder districts and the internet noticed.

What the Photos Show

The album is the primary document. Not a tender PDF. Not a newspaper clipping we could not find. Field frames from Bidar — panels on a corrugated roof, ground-mounted modules, wiring on the back of a unit, a yellow Su-Kam battery/inverter side view, and a carton that names the kit: Brainy Eco — intelligent solar home UPS. That product line is the same family that later shows up in other archive chapters (for example Anantnag hospital). Here it is village Bidar, not a campus tender.

Why This Fits My Story

I have already told the longer rural argument on this site — Rural Solar — where Bhalki is named as the village that proved remote Karnataka was not beyond the channel. The pivot from inverter company to solar company lives in Going Solar. How those kits actually travelled — dealers, training, last-mile pride — sits in Distribution.

People later called me the Solar Man of India for plants and programmes with big numbers. Bhalki’s album is the other proof: a taluka where “underdeveloped” was the textbook word, and a Facebook caption that treated every urban fence-sitter as late to the party. On KunwerSachdev.com I keep the same rural thesis — the argument for solar was won on roofs the grid had failed, not only in conference halls.

Do not confuse this village leaf with the separate utility-scale Bhalki solar plant in industry databases. Different project. Different company story. Ours is the album: homes, hybrid kits, Bidar dust, and a dare in the caption.

FAQ

What is the Bhalki village solar story?

On 8 December 2017, Su-Kam’s Facebook page published an album — “Solar installation in Bhalki, Karnataka — at Kasartugaon Taluka, Bhalki District, Bidar” — with five photos and the caption “People in village are also going solar, when will you!!” The album frames include rooftop panels and a Su-Kam Brainy Eco intelligent solar home UPS carton. It documented village-level solar adoption in Bidar under Kunwer Sachdev as CEO & MD. Engagement: 139 likes, 41 comments, 12 shares — highest rural engagement in this site’s Facebook archive.

What product shows in the album?

One of the five Facebook album frames shows a Su-Kam Brainy Eco carton — intelligent solar home UPS / hybrid kit. This page names Brainy Eco from that Facebook album evidence only (no LinkedIn).

Is there a newspaper or LinkedIn cite?

No third-party newspaper wire naming these Bhalki village installs was found. This page intentionally does not use LinkedIn. Primary source: the Facebook album (photos + caption), including a preserved page screenshot on this site. Founder framing also sits on rural-solar and the Going Solar story chapter.

Why Bidar / Bhalki mattered?

Bidar sits among India’s harder rural development districts. Reaching Kasartugaon Taluka with dealer-led village solar was proof that Su-Kam’s distribution under Kunwer Sachdev’s leadership was not only metros and campuses — it reached remote Karnataka homes.

How does this relate to the founder’s longer story?

The rural-solar essay on this site already names Bhalki as a field proof point. The Going Solar story chapter is the spine of how Su-Kam turned from inverter company to solar company. This page is the village album leaf of that same journey.

Do not confuse with what?

Do not confuse Su-Kam’s village Facebook album with the separate utility-scale ~20 MW Bhalki solar plant operated by other developers — unrelated project.
