IFFCO’s New HQ. Plan Revised Five Times. 250 kW Ordered — 75 kW Built.

A freshly finished cooperative headquarters. Solar that had to look right. Five plan cycles — then we built what the architecture would allow.

By Kunwer Sachdev · CEO & Managing Director, Su-Kam (at the time) · Founder 1988–2018 · Published September 28, 2026 · Historical era: IFFCO Gurugram HO · Energetica/NCN Haryana coverage Aug–Sep 2015

A New Headquarters — Solar Without Ruining the Look

Under my leadership as CEO & MD, Su-Kam took on IFFCO’s headquarters in Gurugram — and this was not a tired factory shed. It was a freshly made, well-planned building. The architecture already had a face. Our job was to put solar on it so the aesthetic did not go wrong.

That made it one of the prestigious projects of the era — cooperative India’s fertiliser giant, a brand-new HO, next to the metro, every visitor seeing the canopy. Prestige is easy to claim. Harder when the client will reject a drawing that scars the elevation.

Five Plans. Then We Were Allowed to Build.

We did not walk in with one layout and pour concrete. We submitted the plan five times — each round with changes — until IFFCO approved a design that respected the building. Only after that approval did installation start. That is how you treat a finished headquarters: engineering second to the look they already paid for, then engineering that still works.

I did not leave the aesthetics to a slide deck. As CEO & MD I visited the site personally twice for those aesthetic reasons, and I met the senior people of IFFCO. Prestige clients do not approve a scar on a new HO from a phone call. They approve it when the founder shows up, walks the elevation, and owns the compromise.

The commercial spine of the story is capacity. The order we carried was 250 kW. Because of aesthetics, what we finally executed at the HO was 75 kW. I will not pretend we installed a quarter-megawatt on a façade that would not take it. The smaller plant that looked right was the win. The aerials show the long canopy solution — solar as a planned line along the complex, not a random carpet on the dome.

What Press Put on the Gurgaon List

Energetica India (21 August 2015) reported Su-Kam’s Haryana solar push under a SECI allotment frame and named key Gurgaon deliveries: State Bank Academy 100 kWp, and 150 kWp grid-tie at two IFFCO sites, plus ITM University parking 150 kWp. NCN repeated the same institutional roll-up: SBA, EIL, 150 kWp at two IFFCO sites, ITM. That is trade press counting portfolio across sites — not a denial of the HO aesthetics path above.

Separately, Energetica covered IFFCO Chandigarh at 75 kWp (SECI; one 15 kW + two 30 kW inverters). Different city. Same client family. Do not collapse Chandigarh into the Gurugram HO story — use it as proof IFFCO kept choosing Su-Kam.

On the Solar Man Map

Honest gap: this site’s Facebook archive has no IFFCO-named post. The pictures live in the story chapter and in the aerials on this page. Next to EIL, SBI Academy, Clay Craft, and PEC — IFFCO is the cooperative headquarters chapter. These are the roofs that, together, gave me the name Solar Man of India.

What I Want on Record

Kunwer Sachdev — CEO & MD of Su-Kam. IFFCO Gurugram HO — freshly built, well-planned headquarters; prestigious solar job where aesthetics ruled. Plan submitted five times with changes until approved; he visited twice for aesthetics and met senior IFFCO people; then installation. Order 250 kW; executed 75 kW so the building’s look was not compromised. Press: Energetica / NCN — 150 kWp across two IFFCO sites on the Gurgaon SECI list; separate Chandigarh 75 kWp piece. No native FB archive card found; aerials document the canopy. Another institutional roof on the Solar Man map.

FAQ

What was special about the IFFCO Gurugram HO solar project?

Under Kunwer Sachdev as CEO & MD, Su-Kam put solar on a freshly built, well-planned IFFCO headquarters. Aesthetics were non-negotiable — the plan was revised and resubmitted five times before approval. He personally visited the site twice for aesthetic reasons and met senior IFFCO people. Founder account: order began at 250 kW; execution was 75 kW so the look of the building was not compromised.

What do trade press say about IFFCO capacity?

Energetica India (Aug 2015) and NCN Online (Sep 2015) list 150 kWp grid-tie solar plants at two IFFCO sites under Su-Kam’s SECI Haryana allotment framing — a portfolio roll-up across sites, not a claim that every building got 150 kW. A separate Energetica piece covers 75 kWp at IFFCO Chandigarh.

Why only 75 kW if the order was 250 kW?

Founder memory: the HO was a prestige, newly finished building. Full 250 kW would have broken the architectural look. After five redesign cycles with IFFCO, Su-Kam executed 75 kW in a form that protected aesthetics — including the long solar canopy visible along the complex in aerial photos.

Did Kunwer Sachdev visit the IFFCO site?

Yes. As CEO & MD he went personally twice — specifically for the aesthetic decisions — and met senior people of IFFCO. Prestige headquarters work was not left only to drawings from Gurugram.

Is there a Facebook-archive post?

No IFFCO-named post was found in this site’s Facebook archive JSON or curated cards. The record here is press + founder account + aerial photography (including story-chapter assets). A press-first Facebook card points to this blog.

How does this sit on the Solar Man map?

Next to EIL (Navratna consultant), SBI Academy (bank training hub), Clay Craft (Jaipur factory), and PEC — IFFCO is cooperative / fertiliser HQ prestige in Gurugram. Kunwer Sachdev frames these institutional roofs as how he earned the name Solar Man of India.
