Clay Craft Was Jaipur’s First Big Rooftop. I Still Call It That.

A ceramics factory in VKI. One hundred kilowatts on the roof. The first big commercial solar bet we put into Jaipur city — and the city noticed.

External media — Electronics Maker: Su-Kam’s first solar installation in Jaipur — 100 kWp at Clay Craft; second 100 kWp underway. IT Voice: first renewable user in VKI, Jaipur; path to Rajasthan’s first 200 kW manufacturing rooftop; inauguration with State Energy Minister & RREC MD.

Why I Still Call It Jaipur’s First Big One

When people ask what solar looked like in Jaipur under my watch as CEO & MD, I do not start with a home kit. I start with Clay Craft. For us, that was the first big project for Jaipur city at that time — a real factory roof in Vishwakarma Industrial Area, grid-tied, sized to matter: furnaces, printers, air conditioners, computers. Not a demo board. A commercial bet.

We had already been in Jaipur as a channel city — Brainy to Rajasthan dealers in 2012. Product launch is one kind of first. Putting a hundred kilowatts on a ceramics manufacturer’s roof is another. Clay Craft was the second kind. That is the founder line I want on this page.

What the Press Said — And What I Felt

Electronics Maker (17 September 2015) put Su-Kam’s name on the work: design, supply, test, commission. Specs: two 50 kW string inverters, about 400 × 250 W panels. Phase-one framing: roughly 1,40,000 units a year and nearly ₹9.1 lakh savings. Our solar-projects voice on the day, Devinder Kumar, said plainly: this was Su-Kam’s first solar installation in Jaipur.

IT Voice went further on the city and the state. Clay Craft became the first company to use renewable energy in VKI, Jaipur. Phase one was 100 kW; with the second 100 kW it was framed as the path to Rajasthan’s first 200 kW rooftop solar PV plant for captive use at a manufacturing facility. Investment across both phases: nearly ₹1.5 crore in that report; savings framed around 2.72 lakh units a year. Sky Solar Jaipur — our business associate — carried the local study. That is not a soft social post. That is industrial Jaipur deciding solar was serious.

And the inauguration was not a quiet handshake. Pushpendra Singh, then State Energy Minister, and B. K. Doshi, MD of RREC, were there for the first-phase 100 kW. When the state’s energy minister and the renewable corporation’s MD stand on your customer’s roof for a Su-Kam plant, you know the city has noticed.

From One Hundred to Two Hundred

The first 100 kWp was never meant to be the end. Electronics Maker already said the second 100 kWp was under progress. That is how factory owners vote — they do not clap for a brochure; they double the roof. For me, as the man running Su-Kam, that doubling was the proof that Jaipur’s first big commercial bet had worked.

Honest gap on pictures: this site’s Facebook archive has no Clay Craft site photos. The hero above is AI atmosphere. The story does not need a staged photo to be true — it has Electronics Maker, IT Voice, a minister, and RREC.

Where It Sits in My Map

Same era as Falcon HBU / BEE 4-star and PEC Chandigarh’s megawatt rooftop. Clay Craft was the factory-floor Jaipur chapter: commercial, industrial area, first big one for that city under my leadership. Dealer halls get you into a market. A VKI roof with the energy minister present tells the market you intend to stay.

What I Want on Record

Kunwer Sachdev — CEO & MD of Su-Kam. Clay Craft, Jaipur (VKI): the first big commercial rooftop project we put into that city at the time — phase-one 100 kWp grid-tie, then toward 200 kW. Press: Electronics Maker (Su-Kam’s first solar install in Jaipur; ~1.4L units / ~₹9.1L phase-one framing); IT Voice (first renewable in VKI; Rajasthan’s first 200 kW manufacturing rooftop path; ~₹1.5 crore both phases; minister Pushpendra Singh & RREC MD B. K. Doshi at inauguration). That is the founder story of Jaipur’s first big one — not a home-inverter footnote.

FAQ

Why does Kunwer Sachdev call Clay Craft Jaipur’s first big rooftop project?

As CEO & MD he frames Clay Craft as Su-Kam’s first big commercial rooftop in Jaipur at that time — factory-scale grid-tie, not a home kit. Electronics Maker called it Su-Kam’s first solar installation in Jaipur. IT Voice reported Clay Craft as the first company to use renewable energy in Vishwakarma Industrial Area (VKI), Jaipur, with phase-1 100 kW and a path to Rajasthan’s first 200 kW manufacturing rooftop.

What did Su-Kam install at Clay Craft?

Phase one: 100 kWp grid-tie rooftop — two 50 kW string inverters and about 400 × 250 W panels (Electronics Maker). A second 100 kWp was already underway toward 200 kW total. Su-Kam had overall design, supply, testing and commissioning; Sky Solar Jaipur is named as business associate in IT Voice.

Who attended the inauguration?

IT Voice reports the inaugural of the first-phase 100 kW plant was graced by Pushpendra Singh, then Hon’ble State Energy Minister, Government of Rajasthan, and B. K. Doshi, MD of Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation (RREC).

What savings numbers appear in press?

Electronics Maker (phase-1 framing): ~1,40,000 units/year and nearly ₹9.1 lakh annual savings. IT Voice (broader / both-phases framing): ~2.72 lakh units saved a year and nearly ₹1.5 crore investment across both phases — treat each as contemporaneous press claims.

Is there a Facebook-archive photo?

No Clay Craft site photos were found in this site’s Facebook archive. The record is press + founder account; the hero is AI atmosphere, not a site photograph.
