SP1A Was Not a Trophy. It Was How We Planted Our Foot in MNRE.
The highest MNRE–CRISIL solar grade. We worked for it — because second-best was not a strategy.
By Kunwer Sachdev · Founder & Managing Director, 1988–2018 · Published September 27, 2026 · Historical era: JNNSM channel partner from ~2011; SP1A renewed Sep 2013 · valid into 2015

SP1A was a very prestigious ranking for Su-Kam — and I was never confused about what we needed.
I was very clear: we had to get the best rating for this. Not a mid-table grade that checked a box. The top grade — so Su-Kam would have a strong foothold in MNRE as a respected, top-rated supplier. We really worked hard to get it. CRISIL’s own process is an appraisal of performance capability and financial strength; our community post said the renewal came after rigorous appraisal in September 2013. That line matches how it felt inside the company.
What SP1A Means
CRISIL’s solar grading exists because MNRE subsidy and channel-partner pathways under the National Solar Mission needed an independent view of who could deliver. The scale is performance 1–5 and financial strength A–E. SP1A is the top of both — the grade our July 2014 Facebook graphic called the highest MNRE–CRISIL solar grade, for capability as a system integrator in the photovoltaic segment.
On the Official Lists
This was not only a social-media badge. MNRE’s empaneled channel-partner lists put Su-Kam Power Systems Limited against CRISIL SP 1A — government PDF and the CBIP mirror. That is the foothold in black and white: when ministries and nodal agencies looked down the sheet, Su-Kam sat in the top band.
Trade press kept the same milestone. Electronics For You listed SP1A rating by MNRE, 2013, and appointment as MNRE Channel Partner for off-grid projects till March 2015 — the same window our Facebook post tied to the grade and the channel-partner appointment.
Channel Partner — The Door SP1A Protected
From early JNNSM years we pushed to be an MNRE channel partner / system integrator so customers could claim direct subsidy for off-grid plants through Su-Kam — without an extra intermediary. The January 2012 archive post records that association. SP1A was how we stayed credible at the top of that table: not just present in MNRE’s world, but graded as one of the strongest performers and balance sheets in it.
What I Want on Record
Prestigious ranking. Hard work. Best rating only. A strong foothold in MNRE as a respected, top-rated supplier — renewed September 2013 after rigorous appraisal, carried on the official lists as CRISIL SP 1A, and announced to our community in July 2014.
That is how Su-Kam stood in front of the ministry: not asking for a favour, but bringing the highest grade the system itself recognised.

FAQ
What is MNRE–CRISIL SP1A?
Under MNRE’s solar channel-partner framework, CRISIL solar grading combines performance capability (scale 1–5) and financial strength (A–E). SP1A is the top of both axes — highest performance and highest financial strength — the grade Su-Kam held and publicly celebrated as the highest MNRE–CRISIL solar grade.
When was Su-Kam’s SP1A renewed?
Facebook archive and the community graphic state the SP1A grading was renewed in September 2013 by CRISIL after rigorous appraisal. Su-Kam was also appointed MNRE channel partner for off-grid & decentralised solar applications under JNNSM with validity through March 2015. MNRE empaneled-partner PDFs list Su-Kam as CRISIL SP 1A.
Why did Kunwer Sachdev insist on the best rating?
He treated SP1A as a strategic foothold in MNRE — not optional prestige. The company worked hard through CRISIL’s appraisal so Su-Kam would stand as a respected, top-rated supplier for government-linked solar work and subsidy-eligible channel-partner projects.
