Micron Became Quite Famous. Crunchy Was the Same 250VA Idea in Plastic.
One story: Micron became quite famous as the 250VA Home UPS — Crunchy was the plastic twin for thin wallets, with zero switchover so a computer or weighing machine could keep running.

One essay — Micron became quite famous ( VARINDIA launch news, YouTube sales point, IndiaMART Micron listings). Crunchy is the same 250VA affordability idea in the Corporate Focus plastic archive — instant-switchover listings. Philosophy: Hindu Business Line (21 May 2004).
I Named Products. Then I Registered Them.
In the inverter industry, most people sold a box. I sold a named product. I gave every line a name — Micron, Crunchy, Chic, Krazy, and the rest — and I registered those names as trademarks under the company. I believe we put more than about seventy-five product trademarks on the company’s books.
Nobody in that trade thought like that when I started. Product branding made the names famous in national and international markets. The honest limit is also true: I could not use the product trademark alone to the best effect. The Su-Kam brand was still required to sell the product. The name opened the conversation; the company name closed the order.
The paper trail for this naming habit is public — CRUNCHY and CHIC both sit as Class 9 registrations filed under Su-Kam Power Systems (26 December 2007 filings on the IP India mirror). Plastic-body culture is also on Wikipedia’s Su-Kam page and in my longer CHIC / plastic essay.
Micron — It Became Quite Famous
The 250VA name that became quite famous was Micron — Digital Home UPS. Not a quiet SKU. Dealers knew it. Sales points filmed it. Trade press launched it. Small homes and shops that could not carry a full-size inverter still asked for that name.
VARINDIA recorded Su-Kam launching Home UPS Micron as a low-cost backup for rural and urban customers — roughly a 25–50Ah battery range, microcontroller PWM, priced from about ₹2,000 with warranty. Su-Kam’s own IndiaMART Micron listings still pitch it as a branded combo in this small range — 150VA with 25Ah and 250VA with 50Ah Macroz tubular — “the only branded product available in the market in this range.” That is what fame looks like in trade copy: the name becomes the category. The sales-point film is embedded at the top of this page.
Crunchy — Same Idea, Plastic Archive Twin
Crunchy belongs in this same essay — not a second blog. It was the Corporate Focus plastic face of the Micron-class idea: a 250VA inverter in plastic, smaller than the big metal home units, for people who could not afford a full inverter install. We sized it for a smaller battery: a car battery, or a small SMF around 40Ah. Small applications. Thin wallets. Real backup without the full-house bill.
In May 2004, The Hindu Business Line put the philosophy in print under the headline He goes with his gut: I wanted reliable and affordable inverters that would also look presentable — a low-cost reliable product that could be mass marketed. Micron and Crunchy were that instinct in a 250VA shell.
No Switchover Time — A Real UPS for Light Loads
The feature that made these 250VA boxes more than cheap light-backup: there was no switchover time. On a cut they behaved as a UPS. A computer could keep running without reboot. So could other low-current equipment — a small weighing machine, a shop till load, anything that hated even a blink. Dealer listings still echo that claim on Crunchy 250VA / 12V — IndiaMART and TradeIndia: instant switchover, space-saver footprint, economical pricing for home or small-outlet backup.
Dealers Did Not Want It — Then the Market Did
At launch it was not successful with our own channel. Salespeople and dealers did not want to push a low-price unit. The margin was not there. That is a hard lesson in distribution: the product that serves the customer who cannot afford more is often the product the trade least wants to stock.
Later it picked up very well — and Micron became quite famous. Once shops and small users understood a 250VA UPS on a small battery, the volume found itself. The channel followed the demand it had first refused.
What I Want on Record
Kunwer Sachdev — founder & MD of Su-Kam. One story: Micron Digital Home UPS became quite famous as the small 250VA (also 150VA) affordable Home UPS; Crunchy is the Corporate Focus plastic twin — 250VA / 12V, car battery or ~40Ah SMF, zero switchover for computers and low-current loads (including small weighing machines). Named products + ~75+ trademarks; Su-Kam brand still had to sell them. Dealers resisted on margin; later the line picked up and Micron’s fame stuck. Online record: VARINDIA Micron launch, YouTube sales-point film, IndiaMART Micron/Crunchy listings, Hindu Business Line (21 May 2004), Class 9 CRUNCHY TM.

FAQ
What was Su-Kam Micron?
Micron was Su-Kam’s Digital Home UPS — the more famous 250VA / 12V (also listed at 150VA) name for small, affordable backup. It became quite famous in the market: sales-point films, trade launch coverage, and dealer listings as a branded mini UPS for homes and shops, often paired with ~25–50Ah Macroz tubular batteries.
How does Crunchy fit with Micron?
This is one story, not two blogs. Crunchy was the Corporate Focus plastic 250VA / 12V twin of the same affordability idea — small package for a car battery or ~40Ah SMF — for people who could not afford a full inverter.
Why could these 250VA units run a computer?
There was effectively no switchover time. On a cut they behaved as a UPS — computers kept running without reboot — and other low-current loads such as small weighing machines could ride through on the same idea.
Did dealers like selling the cheap 250VA?
Not at first. Salespeople and dealers resisted because the unit was low-priced and the margin was thin. Later the line picked up strongly — and Micron in particular became quite famous.
What online news or listings support Micron?
VARINDIA: “Su-Kam launches Home UPS Micron” (affordable rural/urban backup, ~25–50Ah range, from ~₹2,000). YouTube: Su Kam Sales Point — Micron Digital Home UPS. IndiaMART Su-Kam listings still describe Micron Digital UPS as a branded combo in this small range (150VA/25Ah and 250VA/50Ah). Hindu Business Line (21 May 2004) frames the affordable, presentable mass-market gut behind the category.
